Numeracy

Group 2 today spent their mornng working out the area and the perimeter of one of the Netball Courts.

They problem solved with only the 1m2 sheet they made last week, a pen, paper and the question sheet.

Can't wait to see what their results are.

Community Swimming Lessons

Room 8 have been very fortunate this term to recieve FREE swimming lessons once a week for half an hour from the Community Swim Programme at the Manurewa Pools. They have qualified and experienced instructors with them in the pool, so they are able to work with students better. Room 8 are looking forward to the new skills they will learn over the duration of eight weeks.

Numeracy in class

WALT: 

• To find the area of a shape
• To make a 1m2 so we are able to visualise the size 

Today in class, students were learning about area and how to make 1m2. They really like our new Maths programme as they are the faciliators of their learning.

Children's Team Launch

The country's largest support team for at-risk kids, who are under the threshold for statutory care, was launched at our school yesterday. The Counties Manukau Children's Team is the 10th to be opened in the country and expects to improve the lives of children vulnerable to abuse and neglect.

Their clear vision is that they don't want any more children falling through the system.

What family means to me

Daisy was selected by her peers to represent her class by presenting her speech about "what family means to me". She was very fortunate to be chosen by the teachers and Mrs Dawson to present her speech at the Children's Launch day.

Hola

Hola is 9 years old and lives in Manurewa. Hola lives with her 3 sisters and 4 brothers. In her spare time she loves to play with her younger siblings. Inside her family she looks up to her older sister Kalesita because she looks after her. When she goes to school her favourite subjects are reading and spelling. During recess she likes to play basketball. She wants to become a teacher when she is older just like her favourite teacher, Whaea Nicky. She fears teachers because they make her cry. Hola admires Megan Trainor in Walk of Shame, but her favourite song is ‘Work’ by Rihanna. Her favourite shop is Kmart because of their astonishing deals. Her favourite movie is Diary of a wimpy kid. Her favourite colour is blue because of the ocean. She likes to go K.F.C and eat their scrumptious chicken. Her favourite hero is Hulk because he is strong. She adores John Cena because she think he’s always the champion. She plays touch with her brothers in her backyard, it is her favourite game.

Welcome to Room 8 for 2016

What an awesome start to the year we have had. We started off with a school powhiri welcoming new students, parents/caregivers and staff.

There are already so many opportunities being offered to our tamariki such as rugby league for the boys and road patrol which is rewarded with a trip to Rainbows End at the end of the year.

I am looking forward to working with you and your child to make this year, the best ever!
